GOLDEN STATE STORM RE-SIGN RB1 AND ALL-PRO GAME MVP KRIS GRIMES FOR SEASON 2
OAKLAND, CA — The Golden State Storm announced today that premier running back Kris Grimes (#9) has officially signed a contract extension to return for Season 2 with the franchise.
As the Storm’s featured tailback in Season 1, Grimes spearheaded the offensive attack with a relentless, physical rushing campaign, racking up 193 rushing yards on 34 carries (5.7 YPC average) and 2 rushing touchdowns, while adding 23 receiving yards out of the backfield. Following a sensational debut season, Grimes was selected to the WNFC All-Pro Game and named the All-Pro Game Most Valuable Player (MVP).
Grimes’ signature running style—unforgivingly physical, tough, and relentlessly effective—perfectly embodies the heart and grit of Oakland and the Golden State Storm franchise. Beyond the stat sheet, Grimes has grown into an integral pillar of the organization, serving as a trusted locker room leader and key ally for both team ownership and football operations.
"Kris represents everything Golden State Storm football stands for: toughness, resilience, and pure passion," said Golden State Storm Ownership. "Their physical style set the identity for our offense all year, but it’s Kris’ leadership, work ethic, and vision off the field that make them invaluable to this organization. Re-signing our All-Pro MVP was a foundational move for Season 2."
"Oakland has a spirit unlike anywhere else, and every time I step on that field, I run with that energy," said Grimes. "We set the groundwork in Year 1, and bringing home All-Pro MVP was an honor, but our main goal remains a WNFC Championship for this team and this city. I’m ready to get back to work."
